ABOUT MIDNIARA

My name is Maria Cranny, and I have been showing my Belgian Shepherds since November 2000. I love my Belgians and couldn't stop at one. Currently Midniara has 5 Belgian Shepherd Dogs (Groenendael); Buddy, Bella, Georgie, JJ.and Reuben.

Our kennels are in a country town in the Southern part of the Island State of Tasmania, Australia.

We live approximately 27KM from Tasmania's capital, Hobart.

WHY MIDNIARA?

Midniara consists of two names. It comes from part of Buddy's show name Midnight and our eldest Daughter Sara's name. MIDNI and ARA. No I did not forget our little boy Joseph, this had all been decided before he was born.

HISTORY OF MIDNIARA

I stumbled upon breeding/exhibiting by co-incidence. I had only ever owned one other purebred-papered dog and my husband and I were looking for a largish dog.

Back then my husband travelled frequently on business and I wanted a dog to keep me company and help me to feel safe when alone and who would also be member of our family. To cut a long story short we purchased "Buddy" our very first Belgian Shepherd Groenendael. Buddy grew to be quite handsome and eventually after much persuasion from Buddy's breeder, I was talked into showing him.

So since 2000 and now with five Belgian Shepherd Dogs and a husband who wonders what the hell happened, Buddy is now a multi best in show, in show, best in-group and class in-group winner and was awarded Tasmanian Working Dog of the Year for 2004. As well as this he was awarded Number One Groenendael in Australia in 2006 under the dogzonline point score. I campaign with all of my dogs as well as compete in Herding with them.

OUR VISION

Our vision first and foremost is to breed Belgians that are sound with wonderful characters, followed by the continental type which is a dog that can excel in all areas.

We also intend to have fun with our extended family and enjoy every moment with them. We have met some very good friends in the show arena and look forward to meeting and making friends with many more. We have also dealt with some fantastic Belgian Shepherd people, most are only too happy to assist a beginner and rather than see you as another "competitor" they are always more than happy to help.

I also will strive to travel interstate to have my Belgians compete at Belgian Shepherd Specialties by breed Specialist. My Belgians will also continue to compete in Herding as this is what they were originally bred to do.

As well as all of this I also intend to continue to work with and spend time with like minded people who will strive as I do to continue to breed this lovely breed for the best Health, Temperament and conformation possible.
